November 23, 2021 by Chris H. Hadgis No Comments

“Our goal is to elevate lives through developing improved and sustainable food security. We are focused on infusing new technology into agriculture development, along with cultural and humanitarian exchanges, anywhere in the world.”

John Hiers speaking with local leaders in Peru, 2009

John Hiers and Kerilyn Bristow are retired educators from Woodstock Union High School. John taught agriculture, and Keri taught French and Spanish. Keri, however, wasn’t prepared to fully retire, so she began teaching elementary Spanish, PreK to 5th grade, part-time at the Ottauquechee School in Quechee. “I absolutely love it!” says Keri.

While at WUHS, John and Keri collaborated on service-based travel projects with students to the Spanish speaking world.… Read More

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR SPONSORS: Woodstock Terrace: Puzzles Galore!

February 8, 2018 by adminQT No Comments

Too much of something isn’t always a good thing – but sometimes it can be. Residents at Woodstock Terrace discovered just that when they inventoried the many donations of crafting supplies, books, and jigsaw puzzles they’ve collected over the years. Their storage closets were bursting! “This is a generation that doesn’t get rid of anything,” said Briana Maxham, the Terrace’s Life Enrichment Director, “which is how the Puzzle Club got its start.”

A few years ago, two residents who were avid puzzlers decided to start a club to work through the large supply already on hand. They started by counting the pieces of each puzzle and discarding any puzzles missing more than one or two pieces.… Read More

The scene in Boston was overwhelmingly surreal, as I am sure many in our community witnessed firsthand. January 21st wasn’t about negativity or one side versus another, but about the human spirit and our ability to unite as one people. While many are uncertain and apprehensive about the future, fear was cast aside and instead replaced with an energizing and positive feeling of hope. The marches were not merely about Trump, any political figure or initiative but about all of us.… Read More

Rooted in Quechee: Taylor McKenna

February 27, 2017 by Matt McKenna No Comments

As any Quechee resident or frequent visitor knows, a lot can change in thirteen years. Rickety two-person chairlifts give way to faster, sleeker, more flashy-named quads. Sometimes roadside alpacas appear. Restaurants come and go, as do people. But since she first stepped foot in Quechee over fifteen years ago, Taylor McKenna has been a witness to all these changes. Taylor, a resident of Sudbury, Massachusetts, has been a Quechee mainstay in the winter and the summer, on the slopes and off.

In the winter of 2000, Taylor first put on tiny ski boots and clicked them into tiny skis at Ascutney Mountain in Brownsville, VT.… Read More
